How to check a Serbian fiscal receipt
To check a Serbian fiscal receipt, scan the QR code at the bottom with your phone camera and open the link. It opens the Tax Administration (Poreska uprava) page at suf.purs.gov.rs, which says whether the receipt is verified or not valid. Compare the total, time and items. If the QR code won't scan, check it manually at suf.purs.gov.rs/verify.

What the QR code contains
The QR code on a Serbian fiscal receipt is a verification link generated by the Tax Administration's system when the receipt is issued. It carries the receipt's internal data and a digital signature, which is how the system confirms the receipt really went through electronic fiscalization (eFiskalizacija). The link always starts with https://suf.purs.gov.rs/.
On a printed receipt the link is shown as a QR code 40–50 mm wide. If the receipt arrives by email, you get the same link as a hyperlink instead. Without this link, a receipt doesn't count as a fiscal receipt.
How to check a receipt, step by step
- Open your phone camera or any QR code reader.
- Point it at the QR code on the receipt and tap the link that appears.
- Check the address bar: it must be
suf.purs.gov.rs. - Read the status at the top: the receipt is either verified or not valid.
- At the bottom of the page, open the Journal and compare it with the receipt in your hand.
The check is free and needs no account. You can check the same receipt as many times as you like, for 10 years from the date it was issued. When the check succeeds, you can also download an electronic copy of the receipt.
The page opens in Serbian Cyrillic; there is an English switch at the top. The field names below are given in Serbian Latin with a translation.
What the verification page shows
Besides the status, the page has two parts.
Invoice request — what the seller's cash register sent:
- PIB (the seller's tax ID), store name, address, city and municipality;
- Buyer ID, if one was entered (for example, a company's tax ID);
- Vrsta — the receipt type and transaction type.
Invoice result — what the Tax Administration's system confirmed:
- Ukupan iznos — the total;
- counters for this receipt type and for all receipts;
- PFR broj računa — the receipt's unique number in the tax database;
- PFR vreme — the exact date and time the receipt was fiscalized.
For a regular purchase receipt (Promet prodaja, a normal sale) the page also lists the items: name, quantity, unit price with VAT (PDV), total price, tax base, VAT and tax rate.
How to tell the receipt is genuine
A "verified" status means the receipt came from an approved fiscal device. The Tax Administration also asks you to compare the journal with the paper. Pay attention to:
- seller details: PIB, name, store, address;
- the total;
- PFR vreme — it should match the time of your purchase;
- the list of items;
- the receipt type and transaction type.
The receipt counter (Brojač računa) looks like 46/50 ПП. The first number is the receipt's sequence number for its type, the second is the total number of receipts issued with that security element, and the letters are the receipt and transaction type (ПП = Promet prodaja, a normal sale).
If anything differs, the Tax Administration asks you to report the receipt straight away, even if the page says it is verified.
Receipt types: which one you should get
The receipt type tells you why the document was printed:
| Type (Serbian) | What it is |
|---|---|
| Promet | the fiscal receipt that records a sale |
| Avans | records an advance payment for a future purchase |
| Kopija | a copy of a receipt already issued |
| Obuka | a training receipt, for staff training and testing the register |
| Predračun | a pro forma, an offer before the purchase |
The transaction type is either prodaja (sale) or refundacija (refund). For a purchase you should get a Promet prodaja (ПП) receipt. Copies, training receipts and pro formas don't record a sale. If that's what you were handed, ask for the real fiscal receipt.
If the QR code doesn't work
The camera can't read it. Check the receipt manually at suf.purs.gov.rs/verify. Enter four values from the receipt: PFR broj računa (receipt number), Brojač računa (counter and type), Ukupan iznos (total) and PFR vreme (time), then submit.
The page opens but there's no journal. If the register was offline, the receipt may not have reached the Tax Administration yet. Wait a few minutes and try again.
The link goes to another website. A genuine QR code leads to the Tax Administration portal. One that leads anywhere else is a sign of a fake receipt: don't enter any data there, and report the seller.
Where to report a problem
- Suspicious receipt: at the bottom of the verification page, use the button to report the receipt. Contact details are optional. You can attach a photo, pick a reason and describe the problem. Keep the paper receipt.
- No receipt issued: the form at
suf.purs.gov.rs/CustomerReport/Complain(up to three photos; municipality and store name are required), the Tax Administration's Poreski alarm app (anonymous reports allowed), or by phone at 011/361-99-00 and 011/347-90-61, weekdays 7:30–15:30. All channels are in Serbian. - General questions: the Tax Administration contact center, 0700 700 007 or 011 6969 069, weekdays 8:00–18:00.
What changed in September 2026
Since 8 September 2026, a seller found to have issued a receipt with a QR code that wasn't generated by the Tax Administration's system, doesn't lead to its portal, or leads to a different receipt is banned from trading for one year, effective immediately. The same applies to receipts that were altered, combined or fabricated after issue. The penalty is for the seller, not the buyer, but it makes checking the QR code more worthwhile.
Questions
Do I need a special app to check a Serbian fiscal receipt?
No. A phone camera that reads QR codes, or any QR reader, is enough. The link opens the Tax Administration page in your browser. If the code won't scan, you can enter the details manually at suf.purs.gov.rs/verify.
How long can I check a receipt for?
Ten years from the date it was issued. You can check the same receipt more than once, by scanning the QR code or entering the details manually.
What does "not valid" mean?
The Tax Administration's system couldn't confirm the receipt came from an approved fiscal device. Keep the paper receipt and report it with the button at the bottom of the verification page.
What is PFR vreme?
The official time the system fiscalized the receipt. It should match the time of your purchase. For a manual check, you enter it along with the PFR number, the counter and the total.
Why doesn't the page list my items?
Items are listed for Promet prodaja (normal sale) receipts. Copies, pro formas and training receipts have no item list. If the journal is missing, the receipt may not have reached the Tax Administration yet; try again later.
Can a buyer be fined for a fake receipt?
No. The one-year trading ban applies to the seller who issued a receipt with a fake or mismatched QR code.
Check and save in one scan
